I am a self-taught ceramicist, having first discovered the pleasure and satisfaction of working with clay when I was at school. My fascination with the medium has lasted ever since and over the years I have taken numerous evening classes, finding opportunities to work on my own ideas whenever, and wherever, possible. In 2010 I decided it was time to become more than an enthusiastic amateur, and found dedicated studio space at The Adam Pottery in Edinburgh’s Stockbridge.

My time at The Adam Pottery transformed both my work, and my sense of my own potential as a ceramic artist. Working independently but alongside other ceramicists, I was able to experiment and develop my skills within a wonderfully supportive and creative environment. I started to exhibit and sell my work at The Pottery and elsewhere, and began to consider the real possibility of becoming a professional potter.

In 2014 I moved deeper into the Scottish Borders and secured grant funding from the Scottish Borders Business Fund to convert the garage of my new home into studio space.

I work exclusively as a hand-builder, concentrating on slab-built forms. Bowls are constructed from three identical pieces which are laid over hump-moulds, then shaped to create space and movement. Other pieces are built from multiple slabs cut from templates of my own design, which are then carefully joined.
